Join the Idea Sharing Workshop – Early Collaboration on the MOOC “Quality in E-Learning”

Join the EFQUEL Innovation Forum

7-9 MAY 2014 – REGISTER TODAY!

In this workshops participants are asked to either bring ideas on projects and initiatives for open education (course design, open text books, etc.) or the willingness to join in or provide constructive feedback on the ideas of peers.

During the workshop participants will be guided through the open educational life cycle – from an idea to the actual creation of… Also an online platform to support collaborative open practice will be presented.
In a second part of the workshop the presenters will use the occasion to discuss a MOOC on Quality in e-Learning”, from idea to… ?

Changing the trajectory – Quality for Opening up Education

This year’s EFQUEL innovation forum will take place in Crete – exact venue to be announced by end of the week. 

It will address one of the greatest challenges in today’s quality development for education and training: How to achieve quality for opening up education. The EFQUEL Innovation Forum is unique in its interactive design and brings together leading experts from all fields of European and global education and training to take stock of current and future challenges in quality development and innovation in e-learning. We are happy to announce that our 2014 edition will take place in conjunction with the LINQ 2014 Conference to shape the 2014 Mega Event for Quality and Innovation in education and learning. 

Due to many requests, the organizing committee of the LINQ/EFQUEL 2014 conference has decided to extend the submission deadline for papers/projects/workshops to the 10th of February 2014!

We welcome the submission of scientific papers and project presentations as well as proposals for interactive workshop sessions on one of the following topics:

  • Quality indicators and methods to describe, measure and evaluate quality for open education, OER and MOOCs
  • Conceptual contributions on new and innovative quality models, methodologies, standards and approaches for e-learning and open education
  • Experiences and reports from practice with implementation of quality approaches for open education
  • Required competences by institutions as well as by learners for designing, practicing and improving open learning with high quality
  • Local, national, regional and European quality projects in the field of the conference
  • Methodologies for and experience of recognition of open learning in formal education and training
  • Certification of e-learning and open education in institutions, programs and courses
  • Integrated innovation and quality approaches
  • Global aspects of high-quality Open Education (e.g. collaborations, comparative studies, cultural aspects)

Submissions of (1) scientific papers, (2) project descriptions and (3) workshop proposals must be sent by February 10th, 2014 using the official templates that are different for each of the three calls (see http://eif.efquel.org).

Year’s end posting…! Looking back ahead.

To all of you out there a merry christmas, some peaceful days, rest, joy and lots of exchange with your loved ones.

Thank you for an exciting year 2013 with its new threads, opportunities and with all its starts and its ends. May we be able to follow up with each other, to weaver open threads together to close networks of support, exchange and inspiration. You all have contributed in your own unique way to making this stretch of life unique exciting, challenging, rewarding and satisfying. Let’s continue in 2014 in exact the same way. Let’s spark together new ideas, let creativity and innovation be our guiding maxim when embarking on future initiatives.

And let 2014 be a year of inspiration, love and friendship for all of you, in which you find what you are looking for, deepen what you hold worth and abandon what holds you behind.

Qualität von MOOCs: Vortrag auf der Campus Innovation 2013

Die Campus Innovation hat mich dieses Jahr eingeladen zu den Ergebnissen unseres Projektes „The MOOC Quality Project“ einen Vortrag zu halten.  Am 15.11.2013 war es soweit. In einem kurzen froheren Post hatte ich bereits berichtet, und ein kurzes Interview zum Vortrag verlinkt.

Neu ist das Thema digitale Lehre für die Hochschulen in Deutschland ja  wirklich nicht. Seit vielen Jahren werden für den Einsatz in den Hörsälen entsprechende Instrumente täglich angewandt oder getestet. Doch mit immer neuen Technologien ergeben sich im E-Learning auch permanent neue Möglichkeiten.  In den Hochschulen sitzt nun vielfach eine Generation von Studierenden, die mit Internet und Computer aufgewachsen ist.
Während die Diskussion zur Rolle der Moocs in Deutschland gerade voll im Gange  ist, ist  auf europäischer Ebene eine Experimentierphase erkennbar.  Diesen Eindruck vermitteln zumindest Zahlen, die der beim Europäischen Dachverband der Universitäten EUA (European University Association) für Hochschulpolitik zuständige Referent Michael Gaebel bei einem Seminar der Academic Cooperation Association und der EUA im Oktober in Brüssel präsentierte. Demnach hat von 175 befragten EUA-Mitgliedshochschulen die Hälfte das Thema Moocs noch gar nicht diskutiert; einem Drittel war das Thema Moocs nicht bekannt. Aktuellen EUA-Zahlen aus dem Oktober zufolge boten Europas Hochschullehrer 345 Moocs an. Außerhalb Europas liegt die Anzahl der Kurse mit 760 deutlich höher.

Einen der zentralen, bislang noch ungeklärten Punkte sehen viele auch noch in der Qualitätssicherung beim Thema E-Learning. bei der European Foundation for Quality in E-Learning war es dieses Jahr auch Schwerpunktthema des EFQUEL Innovation Forum 2013 in Barcelona. In der Organisation, in der ich seit eineinhalb Jahren das  Präsidentenamt innehabe  haben wir dazu  Experten aus ganz Europa  ein geladen. Die Bilanz: Wir stehen noch ganz am Anfang, ein übergreifendes Verständnis zu haben, was gute Qualität und schlechte Praxis im E-Learning eigentlich sind.  Beispielsweise wird immer klarer, dass  die hohen Abbrecherquoten bei den Moocs kein Zeichen schlechter Qualität sind, sondern vielmehr werden diese  nicht  – wie traditionelle – Kurse von Anfang bis Ende besucht, sondern oftmals nur sehr selektiv.

Wie schön es mal wieder auf der Campus Innovation in Hamburg war. Vor Rund 10 Jahren war ich das erste mal – damals auf der ersten Ausgabe der Campus Innovation. Jetzt – 10 Jahre später – wieder.
